The State Key Laboratory of Advanced Technology for Materials Synthesis and Processing is a key laboratory in the area of advanced materials in China, which was funded by the National Planning Commission and established in Wuhan University of Technology in 1987. The State Key Lab. is under the administration of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China. The laboratory has now 18000 m2 of building floorage, and is equipped with a great deal of advanced equipment for materials synthesis and processing and for the analysis of microstructure, properties evaluation and characterization of materials. The total value of the equipment is about ¥89,000,000(about U.S $11,000,000).
The State Key Laboratory of Advanced Technology for Materials Synthesis and Processing is opening to domestic and international scholars, and possessing 52 researchers, 22 guest professors, 256 master and Ph. D students (including international students).
The main research fields are as following:
Developing advanced technology for materials synthesis and processing, especially focused on the lower-dimension composite technology, including nano-composite technology and membrane –composite technology.
Developing advanced structural and functional materials, especially focused on functional materials for information technology, new energy application and biomedical application.
Developing the fundamental research and materials design, especially focused on the principle and design of materials with multi- composition and multi- scale microstructure.
