官建国博士教育部长江学者特聘教授、武汉理工大学材料学科首席教授材料科学与工程国际化示范学院教学院长、博士生导师,国家级“新世纪百千万人才工程”人选、湖北省高端人才引领培养计划首批人选,享受国务院政府特殊津贴,兼任中国微米纳米技术协会理事以及微纳执行器与微系统分会副理事长、总装某专家组成员等。SCI国际期刊Nanomaterials》《Micromachines国家核心期刊Journal of Wuhan University of Technology-Material Science Edition》、《功能材料》和《航空制造技术》等期刊的编委,也是国家科技奖励、万人计划”青年拔尖人才和“长江学者奖励计划”评审专家、科技部863计划、国家重点研发计划和国家自然科学基金项目评审专家等,以及Adv Mater, J Am Chem Soc, Angew Chem Int Ed, Nano Lett, ACS NanoEnergy Environ Sci50余种国际著名学术期刊的特约审稿人。

他自1997年创建纳米复合技术与功能复合材料研究团队以来,先后负责或领导研究团队承担了包括12项国家自然科学基金项目、4项国家863项目、6项重点型号材料配套项目3总装预研计划和1项国防科工委专项计划生产能力建设项目等在内的国家和省部级重点科研项目80项。多项研究成果分别通过了教育部、中航工业、船总和航天科工集团的项目成果鉴定和产品鉴定,认定“综合技术水平居国内领先,达到了国际先进水平”,并被纳入国军标,实现了在多个国家重要军工型号装备上的规模化工程应用和产业化。Chem Soc RevAdv MaterAngew Chem Int EdNano LettAdv Funct MaterACS NanoBiotechnol AdvSCI期刊上发表论文210篇,SCI引用4000余篇次,H因子37已获授权国家(国防)发明专利34;作为会议主席,成功举办了1st International Conference on Micro-/NanomachinesScience期刊免费整版刊发了会议报道)和第二届全国微纳米马达学术会议,受邀在国际或全国学术会议上作大会报告、特邀报告、专题报告或分会主席20余次。已获湖北省技术发明奖一等奖、军队科技进步一等奖和湖北省教学成果一等奖省部级科技和教学成果奖励9项,以及高技术武器装备发展建设工程有功个人等荣誉称号。

指导培养博士、硕士研究生和博士后140余人,其中近20已成长为二级教授、国家优青、上市公司或国有企业技术总监或副总经理,或自己成功创办企业成为总裁。
